Truck Convoy Benefit for Special Olympics!

Truck-Convoy-BenefitDid you know that September 16-21 was National Truck Driver Appreciation Week? Do you know what many truck drivers did to celebrate their week? You guessed it – they held a countrywide truck convoy to raise awareness and funds for Special Olympics. On September 21, Canal Insurance joined their efforts and participated in the South Carolina event.

Corporal Michael J. Still, who presented at Canal’s Safety Seminar in September, had mentioned the event to Bob Milane, AVP-Risk Management Services. Corporal Still and Bob worked together to identify several state vehicles that Canal could sponsor. Canal sponsored two SC State Forestry Commission vehicles, a fire truck and seven military vehicles.

As the top sponsor for the event, one of Canal’s sponsored vehicles led the convoy down I-77 hauling the South Carolina State Forestry Commission’s brand-new $265,000 bulldozer. The lead truck was driven by Jonathan Calore, Assistant Law Enforcement Chief, and I was lucky enough to be his co-pilot during the ride.

Bob and I made many new friends at this event, including Special Olympic athletes Shawn Mock and Travis Luthren; Barry Coats, President and CEO of SC Special Olympics; and Randy Rice, owner of Renegade Trucking Company, a Canal insured for nine years. We are committed to sponsoring the World’s Largest Truck Convoy benefit for Special Olympics.

Canal and its employees thank YOU – America’s truck drivers – for your commitment to keeping our economy going and supporting wonderful events such as the Special Olympics! Keep on trucking and see you at next year’s World’s Largest Truck Convoy!
