Moore Freight – Supporting Growth from the Start

Dan-Moore MOORE FREIGHTIt’s been nearly 14 years and Dan Moore can’t see making a change. “My experience with Canal has been fantastic,” said the CEO of Moore Freight Service, Inc. (MFS), “I’d imagine they’ll always be our insurance partner.”

MFS has an enviable story of success. The company specializes in motor carrier service for truckload shipments of flat glass, which of course presents unique challenges. Initial operations began in October 2000 in Moore’s basement after Moore accepted a contract to haul glass – even before the company had a truck. “My brother Randy and I had been in the business of factoring trucks, and the opportunity to haul glass came up one day. The only problem? We needed a truck – and insurance coverage – pretty quickly,” said Moore. He found Canal Insurance through a referral. “They were highly rated in the market,” he explained. “But perhaps even more important, they seemed like a good match.”

Moore’s initial impression proved true. “We have had not only a partnership, but a true relationship. Canal is always more than willing to help, giving me support for both small and major issues. They truly think outside the box, and we definitely enjoy a two-way exchange – it’s not all give and it’s not all take.”

After reflecting on their partnership, Moore recognizes that Canal is one of those partners that wants to support a business’ success from the beginning. “They didn’t require us to be a certain size before they were willing to engage. So many companies shy away from start-ups,” he explained. “But Canal has been with us from the beginning, and they’ve been a key part of our success. We’re both rewarded by that growth.”

It’s been a quick climb from the basement. From its current headquarters in Mascot, TN, MFS now manages flat glass shipments with a fleet of trucks fitted with the appropriate racks and other securement devices and weather protection equipment needed to ensure the safe and reliable transport of its customer’s products. In 2012, the company appeared for the fifth consecutive year on Inc.’s 500/5000 list as one of America’s Fastest Growing Private Companies.

“It’s a fit,” Moore reiterates, emphasizing the importance of the collaboration and connection he’s found with Canal. “And when it fits, you stick with it.”Moore-Freight-and-Canal
