Position Description
The Staff Coverage Attorney serves as an advisor to the Claims Department, providing guidance, mentoring and counseling on policy and coverage interpretation. Key to this position is the responsibility of effectively managing outside counsel in ensuring the appropriate handling of complex declaratory judgment actions brought by or against Canal, as well as providing post-verdict analysis and the management of any related appeals.
Position Requirements
Minimum of 5 years experience in either a law firm or in-house position dealing with insurance coverage matters, ideally in commercial auto and general liability segments of the insurance industry. A juris doctor degree and admission to at least one state bar are required. The position is located in Greenville, South Carolina

- Underwriting Supervisor

Major Accountabilities:
1. Monitor and analyze territory production, team service standards, loss experience, competitive marketing data and assess staff adjustments to territory as needed.
2. Provide guidance to direct reports; providing technical expertise for policy audits and risks falling outside of underwriters’ authority levels.
3. Report monthly results and activities along with solutions to problems and deviations from anticipated results.
4. Work effectively with various enterprise departments to manage end customer service and distribution.
5. Effectively manage agent relationships by communicating business appetite and risk acceptability parameters.
6. Act as a company representative at agency meetings and industry events.
7. Administer performance reviews, feedback and disciplinary actions to direct reports.
8. Perform other duties as assigned by management.
