Fact is, world class organizations provide monthly safety lessons, because there’s simply no substitute for outstanding training. Need proof that it matters? How about research by ProTech, a national online training company? The ProTech study found that clients who invested 25 minutes of online or in-cab driver training every three months had Behavior Analysis and Safety Improvement Category (BASIC) scores that were 30 points lower than the industry average. As you know, BASIC scores are used to calculate a fleet’s Compliance, Safety, Accountability (CSA) score. Of course, the lower your average CSA, the better your standing versus competitors – and the better your bottom line results.
And the kind of training matters too. An article in Science Magazine – “Lectures Aren’t Boring, They’re Ineffective, Too, Study Finds” – reveals that passive teaching – lectures or activities with no required interaction – are proven less effective than teaching that incorporates active listener participation.
