Board of Directors

Lansing E. Crane: Mr. Crane served as the Chief Executive officer of Crane & Co., Inc., a manufacturer of specialty papers, from 1995 to 2007.  He had previously served on its Board of Directors beginning in 1985 as the first sixth generation member and the only member not employed at the company.  Mr. Crane served on the board for 22 years, and was Chairman from 1993 to 2006.  Prior to his career at Crane & Co., Mr. Crane practiced law in Connecticut for 25 years.  He currently resides in Boulder, Colorado and serves as a director of Wells’ Dairy Inc. and as a trustee of the Austen Riggs Center psychiatric hospital.

Ann Pelham Cullen: Ms. Pelham served as the Publisher for the Legal Times, a print and online newspaper focused on law and lobbying in Washington, D.C. from 1998 to 2008.  She had previously worked at the Legal Times in several other capacities for almost 20 years, beginning as a reporter in 1988 and subsequently serving as Managing Editor, Executive Editor, and Associate Publisher prior to being named as Publisher.  Ms. Pelham retired from Legal Times in 2008.  She is President of the Duke University Alumni Association and serves on the Duke Board of Trustees.  She currently resides in Chevy Chase, Maryland.

David J. Firstenberg: Mr. Firstenberg currently serves as President and Chief Executive Officer of Canal Insurance Company, Canal Indemnity Company and the Wm. R. Timmons Agency, LLC.  Prior to joining Canal, Mr. Firstenberg was President, Specialty Property and Surety for the Hanover Group in Worcester, Massachusetts.  Mr. Firstenberg has also served in executive positions at One Beacon Insurance Group, Zenith National and Chubb.  He currently resides in Greenville, South Carolina.

Victor L. Lund: Mr. Lund serves on the boards of DelMonte Foods, Service Corp International, Teredata and DemandTec, Inc., where he serves as Non-Executive Chairman.  Mr. Lund spent 22 years with American Stores Company, a $20 billion grocery retailer, in various positions, including Chairman (1995-1999) and Chief Executive Officer (1992-1999), Chief Financial Officer, and Corporate Controller.   Prior to that time, Mr. Lund was a practicing audit CPA for five years. Following its acquisition of American Stores Company, he served as the Vice Chairman of Albertsons, Inc., a leading supermarket chain, from 1999 to 2000.  Mr. Lund also served as Chairman for Mariner Healthcare, Inc. from May 2002 to December 2004.  He currently resides in Park City, Utah.

John R. Pollock: Mr. Pollock served as interim President and Chief Executive Officer of Canal Insurance Company, Canal Indemnity Company and the Wm. R. Timmons Agency, LLC from November 2009 to October 2010.  Mr. Pollock also served as the President and Chief Executive Officer of Winterthur U.S. Holdings, the U.S. subsidiary of Winterthur Swiss Insurance Company from 2003 to 2007.  Previously, beginning in 1988, he served as the President of General Casualty Insurance. Following Winterthur’s acquisition in 1990 of General Casualty Insurance, Mr. Pollock was made General Casualty’s Chief Executive Officer in 1997.  He is the past Chairman and former member of the Board of Governors of the Property Casualty Insurers Association of America.  He currently resides in Naples, Florida.

William R. Timmons, III: Mr. Timmons has served Canal Insurance Company, Canal Indemnity Company and the Wm. R. Timmons Agency, LLC at various positions since 1976, and currently serves as Secretary, Treasurer and Senior Vice President of Investments of these entities.  He also serves as Secretary of Central Realty Corporation, and President of Timber-lands, L.P. and Lullwater Syndicate, Inc.  Mr. Timmons serves on the boards of the South Financial Group, T-L, Inc., Lullwater Syndicate, Inc., Canal Indemnity Company, Central Realty Corporation, the Wm. R. Timmons Agency, LLC and Pelham Road Company, Inc.  He also serves on the Board of Trustees of Furman University and the United Way of Greenville County.  He currently resides in Greenville, South Carolina.
